Doña Mari – Faith, Hope and Love
It is with sadness we say good bye to a legend of La Cruz. May you truly rest in Peace, Señora. Faith, Hope, and Love in La Cruz Dona Marie turns 100. This time of year, has me reminiscing of all things beautiful. I don’t set goals anymore, more like intentions. Focusing on what I desire, how I’d like to BE in the world and what I’m willing to let go of inspires me. It’s with delight I write about a lovely lady in our town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle; Doña Mari. This tiny yet mighty Señora turned 100 [...]
Eat, Drink and Be Merry at Ana Banana’s
Sadly, the rain that came with the summer hurricane (2021) caused a huge tree to tromp all over the structure that housed Ana Banana's and caused much damage. The 'retirement' of such a fabulous addition to our community has created a huge hole in the hearts of many. Blessings to Ana, Barry, their families and all who love them and their Bar. Rock and roll, good people, down home comfort at Ana Banana’s The first time I saw the Ana Banana’s sign, I was so excited I walked right in and ordered a smoothie. Ana looked at me like [...]

Love is all there is!
The perfect time to share the LOVE. Ordinary people taking extraordinary action, La Cruz’ers step up again, sharing LOVE and more LOVE. [Updates at the bottom under the story.] In the ten and a half years that I’ve lived in La Cruz, I’ve been to more fundraisers for those in need than I can count using all my fingers and toes. When there is a need this community steps up! A worldwide crisis affecting those who have lost jobs and who face one to eight months without work… without money to pay for necessities, it is a daunting concept for [...]
Etiquette in the time of COVID
It occurred to me I haven't heard folks talking about etiquette in the time of COVID, so I decided to jot down my thoughts on the subject. We traveled to Canada for our sons wedding, possibly we might not have gone back this year if it wasn't for his wedding. Travelling gave me a unique perspective on life, in three countries… thru a pandemic! I never expected to consider this nor write about such a reality. Pre-COVID seems like eons ago. Everybody has opinions on how others are handling IT, including themselves, and what they (and everyone else) should be [...]
Boosting the home we LOVE; La Cruz de Huanacaxtle
Livin' and Lovin' La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. How time flies when you're having fun! Chris, needing a great big break, took me on the trip of a lifetime; nine months sabbatical in sunny Mexico! Who knew we'd move to a land far far away and still be living here and ten and a half years later? La Cruz de Huanacaxtle drew us in with its fine folks, fabulous food, magnificent music, and ya that wonderful weather and those secluded beaches were a factor too! Boosting La Cruz is always our passion, in times of COVID 19 it's 'muy importante' [...]
Sandy’s Yoga Retreat in Paradise
Fulfilling her dream, Sandy created a Yoga Retreat in Paradise The day that Sandy Dillabaugh walked thru the heart door at Villa Amor del Mar changed both our lives as well as the lives of many yogi’s forever! After an extensive search around the Vallarta area for her first yoga retreat a mutual friend contacted her saying “I know someone who might have the perfect location”. That was five years and six retreats ago and to say it’s a marriage made in heaven is an understatement. Sandy and I have become forever friends and the caring way she looks after [...]
Gloria brings her unique and beautiful art to La Cruz!
We miss Gloria. Blessings to Larry and all who loved our artistic friend. Jan. 8, 1940 - March 7, 2020 Glorious Gloria sharing, caring and creating; from her home to yours! She’s back! After sharing her beautiful clothing designs, art pieces and handmade jewelry with Bucerias, Gloria is returning “home” to La Cruz. She told me “My store will have a different focus. I’m only selling clothes that I’ve created; my own line of “hand painted” one-of-a-kind pieces. In addition I will display my latest floral paintings. I’ll display a new collection of earrings along with my classic styles. [...]
Tequila Dudley creating art in La Cruz
It is with a heavy heart that I share that La Cruz has lost yet another local icon with the passing of (Tequila) Dudley Douglas on September 8th, 2022. He passed away in his beloved home in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit, Mexico. RIP Dudley, you always made me smile, I will miss you. This is an article I wrote four years ago. Tequila Dudley creates art from wood, stone and more. Learning and writing about those who make up La Cruz is a gift I covet. Although I’ve known him for years it was a delight to sit with [...]
SeaRenity; Peace on the Bay.
Dave and Jamie create peace on the bay for all guests chartering their boat; SeaRenity. When someone truly loves his or her job it shows. When their passion becomes their business the joy they share with others is profound. My ‘Characters’ story today is about two people who I feel truly honored to call friends. They resonate their love of life, their joy of living in paradise and especially their love of being on the water with all who choose them to take them out. Sharing peace on the bay with others is what brings them joy! Jamie Jones [...]
