Toño and Laura serve finger-licking ribs
Riquisimo Ribs; Toño and Laura create another delectable option in La Cruz; finger-licking ribs! I know I’m not alone in saying that Toño’s ribs are finger-licking, lip-smacking, melt-in-your-mouth yummy! My father-in-law remarked after an evening of all-you-can-eat ribs “These are the best ribs I’ve had in my whole life!” Las Costillas de Toño owners, Juan Antonio Ortega and his beautiful wife, Laura Mendoza, serve guests with love. Toño has lived in La Cruz all his life and Laura moved here from Puebla seventeen years ago. They met at Enrique’s Glorieta restaurant where Laura was a waitress. Chuck’s Tours… sharing our area with pride!
Chuck Medina of Chuck's Tours shares our beautiful area with others with pride! Recently, two gals staying at our Boutique Hotel asked if I knew someone who could take them to San Sebastian. I had heard of a fellow who did such tours and hired him even though I had never used him before. All day long I questioned my choice, saying to my hubby; “Oh my gosh, I just sent two ladies with an absolute stranger up into the mountains. What was I thinking!?” Thank heavens they returned, cheering the fabulousness of Chuck Medina! They’d been picked up early [...]

La Cruz Murals
Colectivo Tomate, the La Cruz Murals project. Chris Bouchard interviewed Salvador Garcia. Since Mayan and Aztec times, art has been an integral part of Mexican society; any opportunity to express and savor the local culture and its history has always been welcomed enthusiastically. La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is no different. Today, we feature and honor a supergroup of “guest characters” which has indelibly left its mark on La Cruz. Colectivo Tomate, led by Project Director Salvador Garcia. Recently, Chava, as he is known by his youthful team of local and international artists, spoke to me after a marathon two weeks [...]

Birdwatchers of La Cruz
Birdwatchers of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle are quiet, thoughtful. peaceful and care deeply, about birds and about each other too. They lost one of their 'flock' this summer and thru their sadness they create a memorial. Allan Wood loved his wife, his family, friends, flying, birdwatching and being part of a community. He gave his time and energy to others. Allan was taken from this world too soon. We are mourning him. In an effort to pay my respects I’ll write about one of his loves, birding. Birdwatcher, Maryjane shared “Allan was one of the first to [...]
